The William S. Harps Emerging Leaders Fund

The AIDC Washington DC Metropolitan Chapter is proud to offer this fund as a means for motivated individuals to further their careers and the appraisal profession. We seek to equip emerging leaders with the opportunities necessary to increase their engagement with the Appraisal Institute and make a lasting impact on the profession as a whole.  We believe in giving back to the appraisal community and expect recipients to share this philosophy.

Named in honor of National Past President William S. Harps, MAI,  William served as an AI instructor and contributor to educational materials, and paved the way for others to enter the field. He was an entrepreneur, innovator and visionary and we seek applicants who embody those qualities.

The most important legacy that Mr. Harps left was his dedication to breaking down racial barriers.  AIDC is committed to continuing that legacy and removing barriers of entry that have traditionally impacted women and minorities.

While several educational scholarships are available at the Chapter, Region and National levels, we understand that there are other opportunities that can help advance one’s designation path, involvement in the Appraisal Institute, or their overall leadership potential.

Eligibility:

This fund is open to Appraisal Institute members at any level; this includes Student Affiliates, Practicing Affiliates, Candidates and Designated members.

While preference is given to members of the AIDC Washington DC Metropolitan Chapter, we invite and encourage members of all Chapters to apply.

Potential Uses:

This fund can be used to help cover the extra costs that are associated with professional advancement.  Examples of usage include but are not limited to necessary travel expenses for out-of- town designation education, conference registration fees (LDAC, National Conference), comprehensive exam fees, reimbursement for first time Practicing affiliate dues, etc.

Application Process:

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and must be received within 60-90 days of the needed funds.   Maximum awards are $500 and can be received one time per calendar year.

Applicants will complete an essay section, as well as a letter of recommendation from anyone who can testify to the character of the applicant.

A specific advancement opportunity  must be included on the application with the dates to be considered for this funding.

Applications should be submitted to Tiffany Lewis, Executive Director of the AIDC Washington DC Metropolitan Chapter at info@appraisalinstitutedc.org.
